Tips & Advice

WE DON’T OFTEN GET CAREERS ADVICE, IF WE DO, IT’S USUALLY TOO GENERAL AND FROM PEOPLE WITH LIMITED KNOWLEDGE THEMSELVES.

HOWEVER, IT IS A VERY IMPORTANT ASPECT OF OUR LIVES AND GETTING IT RIGHT CAN MAKE A BIG DIFFERENCE.

THERE ARE HUGE ADVANTAGES WHEN APPROACHING CORRECTLY AND WITH CONFIDENCE.

HERE ARE SOME OF POINTS WE CAN TAKE INTO CONSIDERATION WHEN WORKING WITH YOU:

  1. Most hiring managers will look at your social media prior to hiring. You may need to take down those unprofessional photos or even change those profiles to private.

  2. Many people forget to quantify the value they can bring to their future employer. i.e. If you can demonstrate £1m worth of possible business creation to a company, how can they turn you down? This is supply, demand and simple economics.

  3. Think from a hiring manager’s position. What are they looking for, what experience/skills are relevant to them, what makes you stand out and are you providing a credible application. Don’t just focus on what you want from the position.

  4. Check spelling and grammar. Hiring managers can and will refuse interview due to errors.

  5. Many people forget to back up their application or CV with specific statistics, projects and examples. Show success, be compelling and demonstrate a proven track record. Don’t be too generic.

  6. Add software skills to your CV. Some positions require these and you will be more visible if registered with online CV search databases.

  7. Some great online job search sites:
